The Nomad Foundation (West
Africa)
WILD
has always integrated conservation with the needs of local
communities, especially traditional cultures. Nomads are
some of the original “sustainable use” pioneers, long before
the term was ever conceived. As the nomads are forced to
settle down – because of changing climate, governmental
policy, or habitat reduction -- their way of life and their
intimate knowledge of their wildlands are endangered. We are
pleased to work closely for many years with the American
remarkable artist, Leslie Clark, who has dedicated her life
to the nomads of West Africa. After incubating and assisting
The Nomad Foundation for those years, we worked with them
recently to establish them as their own non-profit
organization, of which we remain involved as advisor and
friend. You’ll find it an inspiring and interesting story.
