Policy and Research:

WILD’s policy work and research is conducted through the Wild Planet Project (WPP), an initiative launched by WILD at the 8th World Wilderness Congress (8th WWC) in 2005. WPP is managed by WILD, and implemented with a range of partners around the world. Its objective is to mobilize the global wilderness community around the following three tasks:

1. Assembling the most up to date information on wilderness:

a. How much wilderness do we have left on our planet?

b. What are the benefits of protecting wilderness?

c. What are the available policy mechanisms for designating wilderness protected areas? and;

d. How do you manage wilderness protected areas?

2. Developing new policy and management tools;

3. Directing these tools and information to the field to help establish new wilderness areas, and to improve the management of existing wilderness areas.
