Large-scale pig farming, responsible for swine flu.
Recent reports have tracked "patient zero", and discovered he is a four year old boy from the state of Veracruz, Mexico. His name is Edgar Hernandez and he lives in La Gloria, a settlement near Granjas Carroll (Caroll Farms), a 15,000 hog facility. As you all have probably seen on the news, Mexico is suffering a swine flu outbreak. The Mexican government is approaching this issue with remarkable efficiency: bars and restaurants have been temporarily closed; public transport has been suspended, massive events have been cancelled, etc. This certainly is a very important issue that needs to be adressed properly to avoid further casualties. However, fear has taken over the city, and the expression of this fear has become interesting. WILD9 Symposium still open for abstracts
Just a week before the deadline for the submission of abstracts on April 1st we received an e-mail from Dr. Alan Watson from the Aldo Leopold Institute informing us that they were receiving abstracts by the hour, by the minute, by the second…both in English and Spanish. The abstracts came from very diverse places, like Nigeria, Iceland, Costa Rica, Tasmania, England, Mexico and South Africa. The symposium has gathered momentum, and Dr. Watson seemed very enthused with the response.
