Best Friends

June 15,2009 by Emily Loose

Barbara Zimmerman, director of the Kayapo Project, sent these photos today, with a brief description of these odd, but apparently well suited best friends…..

I was recently in a Kayapo village where I noticed a cow and a collared peccary walking around together and generally part of village life. Apparently, this cow (from a nearby ranch) and peccary were raised together in the village and became inseparable. They leave on treks into the nearby forest and then reappear in the village weeks later – they don’t leave each other for a minute. The cow seems to be the leader……have no idea how the cow survives on the jungle treks but they seemed well fed and healthy.

I know this is probably hard, but is there any way we could get video of these two. The pics are so cute, and I would love to see how they behave together. The pictures remind me a of the video of the puppy and duckling from China: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CkhVp_SuoDE
