Discuss this resolution on the WILD Forums >

WHEREAS: The North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) envisions free trade and commerce between the peoples of Canada, Mexico, and the United States, and

WHEREAS: Such free trade and commerce envisions the free movement of US trucks and of Mexican trucks across our extensive common border, and

WHEREAS: Current US policy and procedures requiring off-loading, border crossing, and re-loading of trucks along our long common border significantly and unnecessarily add to major pollution and environmental degradation not only along the border, from the Pacific Ocean to the Gulf of Mexico, but throughout the entire region.

NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that in an effort to curb air pollution and fuel consumption, affecting wilderness areas, the 9th World Wilderness Congress urges the Congress of the United States of America to review and resolve to respect its commitments and obligations under the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA); and,

authorize and implement the free movement of US and Mexican trucks across our extensive common border.

Proposer:

Timothy Towell, President, The Foreign Policy Group

Seconder:
