Weekly News Round Up – WILD9, Climate Change and Eco-Friendly Celebrities

April 17,2009 by Emily Loose

WILD and the world have had an exciting week. Here’s some breaking news that caught my attention this week:

Received an update from the IUCN (International Union for the Conservation of Nature) that the proceedings of the members’ assembly (4th World Conservation Congress) are now available online. Also, the final version of the resolutions and recommendations from the WCC, which was held in Barcelona last October.

The government of Canada is on a role with protecting wild-nature. This week they declared four new wilderness areas, covering portions of Waterton Lakes National Park, Fundy National Park, Vuntut National Park and the Nahanni National Park Reserve.

The WILD team is all very excited that registration is now open for WILD9, the 9th World Wilderness Congress. Register before 1 June for an “early bird” rate!

And, the international headlines feature the meeting between US President Obama and Mexico President Calderon. President Calderon is the honorary host of WILD9. Reports say that along with discussing the major issues of violence, drug cartels and the economy, global climate change made the agenda.

And, just for fun, I found this list of the world’s most eco-friendly celebrities.

Oh, and its Earth day (or week), right?! Hope you are celebrating this beautiful planet and encouraging action to protect it!
