What is the iLCP?
The iLCP (International League of Conservation Photographers) – an initiative of The WILD Foundation – first came together at the 8th World Wilderness Congress (Anchorage, Alaska 2005). The idea came from renowned conservation photographer Cristina Mittermeier (now Executive Director). She realized that photography can play a huge role in conservation – connecting people to conservation issues through stunning photographs and building strong relationships between photographers and the conservation community.
Now, as we near WILD9, the 9th World Wilderness Congress, where initiatives and resolutions on the 8WWC will be reviewed, celebrated and advanced, the iLCP has grown exponentially and had real and lasting impacts on conservation.
“The iLCP was created to empower photographers working in conservation; what I never imagined was that we were also creating a community of passionate and eloquent artists capable of inspiring each other and the world at large. The strength and prestige of the peer group that has been born through the iLCP is nothing short of amazing. This is the most exciting group of individuals I have ever had the privilege to work with and its keeps getting better. I am both humbled and inspired every day. Our combined achievements and the tireless efforts of my colleagues give me reason to hope that things will get better for our beatiful planet…one image at a time,” Cristina Mittermeier, Executive Director and found of iLCP.
