Young Leaders Forum at the 4th International Biennial Parks Leadership Conference August 2010, Sydney, Australia

July 9,2010 by Emily Loose

News from the IUCN/WCPA Young Protected Area Professionals: Parks Forum is pleased to present the Young Leaders Forum, to be held as a precursor to the 4th International Biennial Parks Leadership Conference: Common Ground in August 2010.

The 2010 Young Leaders Forum presents an opportunity to recognise aspiring young professionals in the parks, recreation and protected area sector and build their leadership capacity for future parks management and leadership.

The program will allow for energetic dialogue on the theme Engaging the Next Generation and other contemporary park management issues. Importantly, the outcomes of the Young Leaders Forum will be summarised and presented to the Common Ground conference, integrating the perspectives of the next generation into the wider discussion about the future of parks.

In addition to the day-long Forum on Monday 23 August 2010, the Young Leaders registration includes full attendance at the Common Ground Conference on 24-26 August, 2010.

We are writing to invite you to support this event and the next generation of parks leaders.

Registration for the Young Leaders Forum is AUD $850 (early bird rate before 22 May 2010), which includes:

  • The Young Leaders Forum on Monday 23 August, 2010; and
  • 4th International Biennial Parks Leadership Conference: Common Ground on 24 – 26 August 2010 including a field trip on 25 August.

Registrations can be completed online through the Parks Forum conference website>

All young leaders nominated to participate in this event are requested to fill out the Young Leaders survey and return it to Rebecca Koss from the Young Leaders Forum planning committee by 15 June at rkoss (a) deakin.edu.au. This will inform the development of the Young Leaders Forum program and help ascertain the concerns of young professionals in park management.

We look forward to the participation of a representative from your organisation in the Young Leaders Forum as a vital component of the Common Ground conference in August.

If you have any questions about the Young Leaders Forum or the Common Ground conference, please call Margaret Jones, Program Manager, Parks Forum on +61 3 9416 2080 or email: margaretjones (a) parksforum.org.
