How WILD Works: Convening
Overview
The first World Wilderness Congress convened in 1977 in South Africa as a result of the wise-words of Magqubu Ntombela to Dr. Ian Player: “We are doing good work, but we need to do more. We should call an INDABA-KULU – a great gathering – for all the people to come together for wilderness.”
From this conversation grew the World Wilderness Congress. Aside from the Congress, WILD facilitates conversations, stewards ideas and mentors projects through convening individuals and groups worldwide for focused conservation goals and projects. Our current convening programs are:
North American Wilderness Collaborative
Launched at WILD9, the 9th World Wilderness Congress in 2009, the collaborative brings together the land management agencies of the US, Canada and Mexico to achieve specific outcomes on transboundary conservation and collaboration and other management objectives. Learn more >
