International Journal of Wilderness
The International Journal of Wilderness (IJW) is the tool of choice for wilderness managers and advocates, produced through a unique collaboration between The WILD Foundation and its many partners and sponsors. The IJW links wilderness professionals, scientists, educators, environmentalists, and interested citizens worldwide with a forum. Learn more >
Wilderness Visionaries
The WILD Foundation honors and celebrates those leaders, both contemporary and historic, who have dedicated their lives to the preservation of wild-nature. ‘Wilderness Visionaries’ pays tribute to these leaders and launched at WILD9, the 9th World Wilderness Congress (6-13 November 2009, Merida, Mexico). A professional exhibition produced in partnership by Noel and Belinda Ashton, The Nature Connection, South Africa showcased many “Wilderness Visionaries” in the EXPO WILD9, for delegates to see throughout the Congress. ‘Wilderness Visionaries’ is an ongoing initiative and we encourage your input. Extreme Ice Survey
The Extreme Ice Survey, an initiative of James Balog, the outstanding conservation photographer and founding member of the International League of Conservation Photographers. EIS operates in partnership with WILD. This innovative project documents short-term, rapid changes in glaciers, caused by global warming. EIS is the most wide-ranging study of glaciers ever conducted using ground-based, real-time photography. Learn more >
Public Sculpture
WILD believes in the power of art to inspire, inform, and engage. Moreover, art can also communicate conservation messages and promote positive attitudes and actions for wild nature. We have implemented several projects involving public sculpture, at both the 8th and 9th World Wilderness Congresses. Learn more >
WILD Writing Award
The WILD writing award recognizes a meaningful and significant body of publications and other work that protects wilderness, honors the spirit of wild nature, and recognizes the needs of human communities. This occasional award, a collaborative project between WILD and Fulcrum Publishing, was launched at the 8th World Wilderness Congress, awarded to John Haines (Alaska, 2005). Learn more >
Wilderness Conservation Painting Expedition
Beatriz Padilla, the Mexican environmentalist painter, has embarked on a journey combining the art of painting with nature conservation in a new and innovative way. The Wilderness Conservation Painting Expedition (WCPE) is an applied conservation initiative, using the arts to support and communicate conservation issues of key wildlands across the globe and assist local people in communicating their relationship with these lands and receiving benefits from doing so.
