Phase I - Reseach and Understanding

Phase I (Research and Understanding) of the Mali Elephant project ran from 2003 through 2006, and has been successfully completed. It involved extensive field research to compile more complete information about the elephants, to estimate their number, identify the herd’s composition, and to better map its movements.

Range of the Mali Elephants

Field data gathered during this phase was combined with GIS data to understand the bio-physical and social environment of the migratory route.  In summary, Phase I showed us that we are at a critical point for elephants conservation.

We publish the reports both in English and French, the official language of Mali.
