Make a Big Impact with Small Change

Join WILD’s Dung Beetle Campaign

Our world is supported by small critters – little things that make a huge impact on the ecosystems they inhabit, and the world we all share. Often unnoticed, these diligent workers provide food, fertilization, decomposition, aeration and many other extremely valuable “under the radar” services.

Our favorite example is the dung beetle which, like many species, spends its whole life on a mission to pass on its genetic code to the next generation of dung beetles. This mission also has a valuable byproduct: the fertilization of grass-lands and the dispersal of animal excrement – “dung.”  See how the dung beetle works. This rather unglamorous service is typically overlooked – but imagine if there were no dung beetles! What a mess that would be…..

Pound for pound, the dung beetle is unmatched in the change it creates, and the services it provides!

Inspired by the dung beetle, we realize that small change adds up. Here are some small ways you can make a big impact for wilderness:

  • Save your change! Put all of your spare change into a jar at the end of each day…..you’ll be surprised how quickly the change piles up. Summit Middle School here in Boulder raised $1,500 for WILD through a “Penny War”! You can donate what you collect online, or send a check to our office at 717 Poplar Ave, Boulder CO 80304.
  • Through E-Bay – Doing some (pre) Spring cleaning? If you plan to sell on Ebay, you can now designate a portion of your sale proceeds to benefit The WILD Foundation, through Ebay’s giving program MissionFish.
  • Become a monthly donor at ANY amount - no donation is too small! Just think, if you donate just $5 each month, that’s an annual donation of $60.
  • Change your habits, donate the change! A few ideas to create some change for wilderness – carpool, walk or ride your bike to at least 1 destination each week. Or, skip the coffee shop and brew your own cup of joe. Collect the money you saved on gas and donate it!

In honor of the dung beetle, every new donor will receive our specially designed “I brake for dung beetles” bumper sticker (to redeem, please write “I LOVE DUNG BEETLES” in the “comments” section of the donation page)!
