Outward Bound Wilderness Walk

A Pre-Congress Wilderness Experience For Youth and Young Professional WILD9 Delegates

Location: The course will start and finish in Sian Ka’an, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, which is the largest protected area in the Mexican Caribbean (approximately 1.3 million acres). It is unique for its geography and wetlands, and is home to 23 known archeological sites (with relics dating up to 2,300 years old), 103 known mammal species, 336 known bird species, as well as being an important nesting site for two endangered sea turtle species.

Dates: 1 November 2009, 11AM through 4 November 2009, 2PM

Activities: During the Wilderness Walk the delegates will be physically and emotionally challenged to connect with the Earth through silent jungle walks, water dynamics in cenotes and the ocean, silent beach walks and facilitated debriefs. They will be camping out, cooking their own simple meals and be responsible for a Leave No Trace protocol during the course. The delegates will be trained in the back-country skills necessary to navigate their way through Sian Ka’an region in a way that will not only connect them with the earth, but will teach them the value of interdependence.
