The health of Earth’s biodiversity is inextricably linked with the health of Earth’s climate. When we protect at least 50% of the land and sea, we protect the most efficient life-support system on Earth . . . and mitigate the impact of climate change.
Defending Earth’s biosphere requires political will at all scales of government. WILD is mobilizing citizens around the world, especially in the BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa) to support new leadership to defend Earth’s biosphere.
Protecting half of Earth requires national-level action from government around the world.
Building strong national constituencies for half is the first step toward achieving this important goal. That is why the WILD Foundation is working with local partners to organize constituencies in ecologically significant countries of Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa (the BRICS) – to protect and connect wilderness areas in their regions.
In 2020, the United Nations Convention on Biological Diversity convenes to set new global protected area targets. WILD is leveraging this event to draw greater attention to the need for protecting half of Earth’s land and seas – and promote national level action in the BRICS.
Placing Nature Needs Half on the policy agenda in BRICS country as the necessary next step to protect half of Earth by 2050.
When you support the 2020 & Beyond Campaign, you help some of the largest, most ecologically significant countries in the world take the first step for achieving Nature Needs Half.I want to citizens to mobilize support for nature!
How 2020 & Beyond does it
Recruits leaders from all sectors of society to coordinate common strategies and objectives for the protection of half in each BRICS.
Builds public awareness and support to expand support for half in nontraditional conservation audiences and mobilize action.
Connects government and institutional leaders with appropriate technologies and solutions for protecting half in their jurisdictions.
