Augustin is a 27-year-old Haitian with a passion to build community gardens.
Haiti has been rocked by one devastating disaster after the next, throwing much of its already vulnerable population into poverty. Augustin watched as these events destabilized his country and threatened the future of the country’s youth.
Augustin would not simply stand by. He created a solution on a local level that would engage youth and work to tackle large-scale problems within his country, one garden at a time.
Augustin knew a garden may not necessarily save his country but it could lay the seeds to eradicate poverty by building the spirit of the country’s youth, enabling them to become tools for their communities and step into leadership roles and ownership of a project. Leading a youth movement centered around fostering nature in midst of deep-rooted political upheaval and the aftermath of natural disasters is no easy task. Augustin needed support from others like him.
CoalitionWILD offers leaders like Augustin a shoulder to lean on, a platform to share their story, and the connections to resources and people to deepen the impact of their place-based project. The program galvanizes and connects the world’s young change makers so that they can better tackle our planet’s greatest conservation and sustainability challenges. CoalitionWILD works to elevate and drive forward innovative and inspiring projects by offering the connections, opportunities and tools to do so.
Augustin has now created a local Alliance of 25 members, built 5 gardens and is connected to two other global Alliances around the world that are in communication with him- sharing ideas, celebrating their successes together, and brainstorming for greater impact!
